What I did in Nuclear Physics so far:

I studied Physics at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and finished with the german degree of a Diplom in 1995. The required thesis work was done at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory in Michigan, USA. There I worked with Michael Thoennessen's group on a measurement of the giant dipole resonance in excited states of 120Sn nuclei.

In August 1995, I started as a Ph.D.-student in the Fragment Separator Group at GSI in Germany. Here I worked mainly on the field of light exotic nuclei at the drip lines. Using the Fragment Separator as an energy-loss spectrometer, we measured longitudinal momentum distributions of 8B and 19C. This was also the topic of my Ph.D. thesis.

I received my Ph.D. in February 1999 from the University of Gießen, Germany. Since March 1999 I live and work in Michigan, where I have a position as a visiting assistant professor at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory.

My current main research topic is the design and construction of a large area neutron detector that will be used in connection with the Sweeper Magnet, a 4 Tesla dipole magnet and a new development that will be ready after the cyclotron upgrade is completed.

Ph.D. Thesis (February 1999):
Longitudinal Momentum Distributions of 8B and 19C: Signatures for One-Proton and One-Neutron Halos
1.2 MB

Diploma Thesis (May 1995):
Untersuchung der Dipolriesenresonanz im angeregten 120Sn
