Travel & Visa

EBSS2011 will take place from July 25 to July 30, 2011 at NSCL/Michigan State University.

To/From East Lansing

We expect participants to arrive July 24. There will be an active program on Saturday July 30, so please plan on leaving on Sunday July 31. NSCL is located on the campus of MSU, in East Lansing, Michigan. The nearest airport is Lansing Capitol Airport (LAN), from which MSU can be reached by taxi in about 20 minutes.
Alternatively, one can fly to Wayne County Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), which is serviced by all major airlines. A convenient and cost effective alternative to renting a car, is using the Michigan Flyer bus service from DTW, which stops in downtown East Lansing, from which one can walk to the hotel (see lodging) or take a local bus (line 1).
The Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids (GRR) and the Bishop International Airport in Flint (FNT) sometimes offer lower rates and are within 60 minutes driving distance. One has to rent a car though.

Visa information

For foreign attendees, please make sure of the visa requirements for entering the US.

If you can make use of the Visa Waiver Program (this depends on your nationality, please check at this site), make sure to select a "Visa Waiver for Business [WB]". Note that even if you fall under the waiver program, a travel authorization (via the "Electronic System for Travel Authorization-ESTA") is still required and must be obtained prior to your entry into the US. You can do this online using this link. There is a small fee involved ($14). Also make sure that your passport fulfills the requirements set by the US government.

If you cannot make use of the Visa Waiver Program, you must ensure that you obtain a valid business visa (B-1) for entering the US. Such an application takes time and you should start the process as soon as possible. You will probably need an invitation letter from us. Please visit the following web site.
